Mirrors
Espejos (Mirrors) by Irma Sofia Poeter
Observing the work of an artist, one cannot ignore the knowledge of his personal life experience. In the case of Irma Sofia, it is important to remember her dual nationality not acquired by a bureaucratic act, but from birth, transmitted to her by her parents. In her, the American and the Mexican nature live together, and inevitably her artistic work is therefore a constant search of balance, giving shape to high profile hybrids.
Working with textiles has given her the opportunity to develop concretely her deeper nature. Plot and warp integrate to manifest what she has incubated along the years, into the most remote corners of her being. All is a game of reflections, of suggestions. A game of mirrors.
This way of getting in direct contact with the environment in which she lives has made possible this new chapter in her artistic production.
Espejos (Mirrors), in fact, was born in Italy by her expressed wish. She did not show here artworks already done elsewhere, the artworks that are part of this series were made by her from the day-to- day contacts lived here in a modus operandi leaving a concrete trace of her presence in the place. Therefore the background of all this work, the plot, is particular to Belforte del Chienti, its people, its moments. Every element, amplified and reflected, more than once, generates a basic architecture that admits the textile elements, the warp, which with harmonious balance the artist puts on the canvas. Days made of silence, spent absorbed in the work, but also days made of meetings in the village square.
The uniqueness of this work is enclosed in this fusion mechanism in which the artist and the environment in which she works, while retaining each one own identity, together create something that will remain forever in the life and history of both. Every artwork is the result of a delicate, but intense dialogue, in which each element contributes to the end result and in which every obstacle dissolves into an embrace rich in feelings rather than words. And these emotions remaining here tell the magic of this happy coexistence.
