Infiltrating Iconographies

Infiltrating Iconographies is the outcome of my two-year stay in Oaxaca, Mexico. Living and working there afforded me the opportunity of having an incredibly rich experience with textiles. Color, textures, form and iconographies imbedded in a complex and diverse culture, took me to another realm, where spirit, tradition, mysticism and nature conquer, and rein.

The format of these pieces is European, but the infiltrating and merging iconography is Pre-Hispanic. These icons come from the embroideries and woven clothing and utilitarian textiles of the Mixtec and Zapotec cultures. They narrate and describe the unique ancestral culture and history of its people.

It is evident that this re-conquest is permeating observers outside of this unique space called Oaxaca. We as a world are reaching back to that ancestral way; seeking meaning, direction and our own survival.
