How many drops have fallen?

How many drops have fallen is a piece made by intervening military pants and shirt that are transformed into a bridal gown with the train made out of braided cotton and organdy, simulating viscera.

The work’s critical postures are diverse, on one hand the relation of what the American culture calls “Army Bride” that are the partners, wives, girlfriends and widows who suffer the consequences of war and bear the burden of living with disabled spouses or losing and mourning them. On the other hand, the banality, which occurs with the use of war-style design on fabric within the prevailing fashion system, implying the war is “in”. And even the connotation of marriage as a battleground is suggested by the piece. The dress was presented in the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, California, condemning the Golf War.

This piece was presented as an installation, and as video performance. As an installation, the piece was placed on the floor with a sign made out of red beads that read: How many drops have fallen? The video consists of a woman wearing the dress and walking through a suburban residential neighborhood.
